Thanksgiving 2018: Thanking the Lord

Jay Christian Huynh

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” (Ephesians 5:20).

This Thanksgiving, I dedicate this writing to giving thanks to the Lord for all that He gave me. Although my major is in IT, I am still working to get through my core curriculum classes. This year of college is challenging, but the Lord is helping me through it.

Even though I work hard to achieve good grades, I know that God was there to guide me. College is a difficult occupation as most of my time is consumed by class, study, assignments, or sleep. I’ve little time for anything else, especially as I progress with more difficult courses and heavier workloads. I know that if I relied on my own strength to go through college, I would not do as well as I am now.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13).

I still take the time to study His Word, pray, and observe the Sabbath even though I’m busy with school work. For all that God gave me, the least I can do is set aside time for Him. Reading the Word reminds me that when I feel stuck or weak I have Christ to rely on for guidance, strength, and wisdom. The Lord is willing to help those who need it, but they must also take the time to show their dedication to Him. God won’t be involved with those who do not include Him in their lives, which is why it is imperative to be diligent in the matters of the soul.

I thank God for the scholarships and grants He gave me, so I can continue to study. This semester, my sister and I received a bonus scholarship of $750 dollars from the Honors program for being members of the program and maintaining a good GPA. Were it not for God blessing our work, we would not have the GPAs to earn this bonus scholarship; I thank Him again.

Scholarships and grants are vital for me to go to school since both of my parents are retired and my sister and I do not work; without financial assistance, I would not be able to attend school at all. I am blessed that the money I received covered all my tuition and expenses for supplies. So, any left-over money goes towards our family’s living expenses. By the grace of God, I learned to trust that when we are in need the Lord will provide for us in His time.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6).

I am thankful that the Lord is in my life, blessing me with all that I have. I thank the Lord for a family that provides for me to study and pass my classes. I also thank you, the readers, for taking the time to read what I write and for your support for my parents’ ministry. May God bless you as He blessed me.

Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.” (1 Chronicles 29:13)
